RIVER THAT NEVER RESTS

2024

A ritual performance exploring the River Exe as a sentient being and relaying it’s story as the observer of the land and guide between worlds. Commissioned by the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and informed by the World Culture and Natural Sciences collections at RAMM. In particular, the Richard E. Dennett Collection from the Democratic Republic of Congo and objects found and collected from Exeter. The work is informed by the Minkisi and Nkisi (healing figures) and the spiritual healer who imbues them with power known as Nganga.
